We know Hedi Slimane as the Creative Director who took over from Pheobe Philo at Celine a few years ago, but mainstream fashion has skipped a beat. His photography is an absolute treasure trove, and I’ll call it now that his photography style and black and white aesthetic will go down in history beside Mapplethrope. If Richard Avedon had a baby with Amy Winehouse, it would look like the work of Slimane.
When you read about Slimane as a photographer, words like chaotic, raw, violent, and youth resonate off the page. He hasn’t hosted an exhibition since 2011, which is fair enough, he’s a busy man, but his diary is something to absolutely save to your bookmarks bar, it’s regularly updated and bleeds a very slick curation, reckless expression, and addictive documentation.
